Mongolian President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj met Charles University (UK) rector Tomáš Zima today, who showed interest in continued cooperation between UK and Mongolian universities and pointed out that UK participates in education activities in Ulan Bator through its embassy.
Elbegdorj also met students of Mongolian and praised them for asking him questions in the language.
The students were mainly interested in life in Mongolia, such as the current position and future of the traditional shepherds.
Elbegdorj comes from a shepherd’s family. He said, “Mongolian shepherds are the spirit of Mongolian traditions.” Not even the communists succeeded in destroying them even though they tried. “They only succeeded in placing a radio in the yurt, nothing more.”
Elbegdorj arrived in the Czech Republic by train from Berlin on Sunday. He had talks with his Czech counterpart Miloš Zeman and government representatives, including Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka, on Monday.
Nineteen people are currently enrolled in Mongolian studies at UK.
